In September 2018, I was admitted to Imam Khomeini International University (IKIU) in Qazvin for my undergraduate studies. IKIU is a prestigious university with a rich academic history, renowned for its acceptance of international students. If I were to describe my time at university in a few sentences, I would say it was a period of my life marked by my entry into the world of academia, an introduction to what shapes our world, and an era that brought forth numerous social experiences for me. It was a time of academic engagement and youthful vigor at its peak.
During my university years, it wasn’t just a time for academic pursuits but also a period for student activities. I began my student engagements through photography, actively participating as a photographer in student festivals and events.
Civil Engineering Student Association
I became a member of the Civil Engineering Student Association through expanding my student activities. Subsequently, I began my involvement as a photographer and writer for the association’s specialized magazine, “Sara Plus”. My responsibilities included documenting sessions and activities, coordinating scientific meetings, capturing scientific visits, and generating content for the association’s social media networks.
Society for Preventing Social Harms
After my involvement in the Civil Engineering Student Association, I embarked on activities within the Society for Preventing Social Harms. This society aimed to organize scientific sessions, produce content, and monitor the social and mental well-being of students regarding social and individual challenges, which could potentially lead to physical and mental problems. Throughout my engagement in this society, alongside other active students, we succeeded in being recognized as the top society within the university’s intra-university festival.
Teaching Assistant for the Concrete Technology course
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift to virtual learning, I was approached by Dr. Mehdi MehdiKhani, a faculty member of Civil Engineering at Imam Khomeini International University, to assist him during the epidemic. Following his request, I attended the university as his assistant, where, adhering to health protocols, we conducted laboratory classes for Concrete Technology and Building Materials. Additionally, considering my experience in content creation and videography, these classes were recorded, edited, and made available to students. This enabled them to have a better understanding of the laboratory sessions for Concrete Technology and Building Materials.
Scientific and Research Activities
Following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions and the resumption of in-person classes at the university, I shifted my focus towards scientific and research activities. I began working on student projects in the fields of highway and transportation design, designing concrete and steel structures in ETABS, designing retaining walls for guardian structures, designing residential complexes, and modeling
township-style buildings in AutoCAD and Revit. Additionally, I participated in a competition for designing a crisis management building in Tehran, collaborating with architecture students. Our design was selected as the winning proposal; however, unfortunately, the Tehran Municipality never awarded the competition prizes.
Student Guild Council
During the last year of my undergraduate studies, as protests erupted in Iran, university campuses became inflamed, and students faced immense pressure from university authorities. Witnessing unjust treatment and the loss of students’ mental peace, I, leveraging my legal expertise and my involvement in the Society for Preventing Social Harms, decided to support students against the pressures exerted by authorities. By joining the Student Guild Council, I became their voice of protest against the current situation. I worked towards alleviating the restrictions imposed on students, facing numerous pressures and threats from the university along the way. However, we stood firm in defending our rights until the end, as the silence of students in the face of ignorance is the destruction of the future.
